Day 5 - Saturday, April 29 - Beaune to Vaison-la-Romaine

Today was a travel day.  We drove from Beaune to Vaison-la-Romaine, most of which was spent (no pun intended) on France's national toll roads.  As you can tell from the photo, it was another overcast day.  If I hadn't witnessed it for myself on the first day of our trip, I would swear that France's skies are grey instead of blue.  But the clouds do appear to be breaking up, so maybe tomorrow we'll get lucky.

Today's photo op was taken at our only real sightseeing stop, Cluny.  The views from up here were really beautiful.
Abbey of Cluny
Cluny abbey was founded in 910 by Guillaume d'Aquitaine. Building was completed in the mid 12th century, the high point of the abbey's history. For five hundred years, until Saint Peter's in Rome was built, the abbey church of Cluny was the largest religious building in Europe (177m long). Cluny produced a number of Popes.
